Mission: It’s our mission to provide a stylish and sustainable alternative to buying clothing by partnering with public libraries everywhere to lend ‘looks’ not just books.
Vision: Our vision is to normalize borrowing behavior by implementing an ecosystem for re-circulating clothing locally to transform how fashion is consumed globally.
Through its programming, the Clothing Library brings awareness to the ecological and social impact of consumer choices. We focus on education, exploration and community engagement!
The Clothing Library plans to expand its presence in partnership with existing library networks.

Stella McShera, founder of the Clothing Library, dreamed up its existence in 2020, well before it came into fruition. As a long time secondhand shopper and swapper, she has been a sustainable fashion advocate for four decades.
In 2020, she received her Circular Fashion Certification from Wageningen University in the Netherlands and went onto study her Masters in Degrowth at the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona graduating in March 2024.
It was during the master's program that she decided to breath life into the Clothing Library in her newly adopted home in New England by conducting a 6 week pilot.
